Taken all together, the entire video series will help parents to:
- consider whether IEP goals and objectives were implemented during missed, reduced, or altered services of the pandemic period
- understand how the pandemic created a need for convening IEP meetings, amending IEPs, and adding services in new areas of need to provide FAPE
- show the IEP team the need for additional education or related services to make up for lost educational opportunities and progress
- request appropriate school assessments and independent expert evaluations to measure and describe current skill levels
- understand procedural safeguards such as the Prior Written Notice, access to educational records, and the requirement for the full participation of parents even during the pandemic
- work creatively with the school staff to develop team agreement about services and tools that will compensate for lost progress
- communicate and advocate effectively with the school district, even while resolving disputes
- learn from FAQs from other families and examples in compensatory education cases from around the country
