Pediatric Genetics Clinic at Southcentral Foundation (ANMC)
Southcentral Foundation (SCF) has partnered with the University of Utah to offer genetic evaluations for children up to the age of 18. Appointments are available in three-day clinics which take place once every three months. Pediatric geneticists travel from Utah to Anchorage to evaluate and treat children who are eligible for medical care at the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC).
Common reasons for a referral to Pediatric Genetics include congenital differences, developmental delays, autism, findings on genetic tests, suspicion for a certain genetic condition, and family history of heritable disorders.
A typical genetics appointment consists of a pediatric evaluation, discussion with parents about their child’s medical history, current concerns, and genetic testing recommendations. Genetic testing is usually ordered, and a sample obtained during the clinic visit.
Genetic test results are reviewed by the team and the genetic counselor informs parents of the results via phone or letter. Depending on test results, a child may follow-up in clinic.
