Transition Series – Guardianship and Supported Decision Making Agreements
October 26, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
This school year, join Stone Soup Group and the Alaska Down Syndrome Network for our 6 session series on what you need to know as you and your student with disabilities prepare for adulthood. It’s never too early to start preparing for adulthood. We encourage parents of students of all ages to participate!
Guardianship and Supported Decision-Making Agreements with Anne Applegate
Have you been advised to seek guardianship of your adult child? Are you looking for more information about alternatives to guardianship? Do you wish that there were better alternatives than the ones you’ve seen? Supported Decision-Making Agreements (SDMAs) are written agreements that give adults the help they need to make choices about their lives.
These choices could be about:
- where to live
- what to do during the day
- how to spend money
- when to see a doctor
This session will help people understand more about guardianship, conservatorship, and other decision-making options – including those created by Alaska’s Supported Decision-Making Agreements Act. You will learn about different kinds of support your adult child can use to make choices. We will discuss how SDMAs can work, what makes someone a good supporter for making decisions, and how you and your adult child can take the first steps toward creating and using an SDMA.
Presented via ZOOM. ZOOM link will be sent after you have registered.
No computer? No worries, you can still join us via phone!
