Workshops, Trainings & Activities
Q: Is there a cost for Stone Soup Group workshops?
A: Almost all of the workshops at Stone Soup Group are free of charge. In the event that we are forced to attach a cost to a workshop it is usually because the course is several weeks long, or requires special efforts or supplies. In the rare case that a fee is required, the fee is usually very small and in some cases we are able to offer “scholarships” for families who are in financial hardship.
Q: Some Stone Soup Group workshops offer childcare, is there a fee for childcare?
A: No, when Stone Soup Group offers childcare during a training it is at no cost to the parents. All childcare providers at Stone Soup Group have experience caring for children with special needs are have undergone fingerprinting and a federal background check.
Q: Why don’t all Stone Soup Group workshops allow participation by teleconference?
A: Courses like FASD 101 & 201 and a few other don’t “translate” well over the phone because of the hands-on materials presented. To make sure that everyone in the state has access to the FASD courses, Stone Soup Group has trained presenters all over the state. Call Stone Soup Group for a list of FASD trainers in your area.
Q: OCS (the Office of Children’s Services) told me that I have to take a “parenting class”. Does Stone Soup Group offer a “parenting class”?
A: No, Stone Soup Group does not offer “parenting classes" that will satisfy OCS or other regulation agencies. Stone Soup Group does offer workshops, such as Positive Solutions for Families, which helps parents who have children aged birth to 5 who have challenging behaviors. However, our trainings do not satisfy OCS or ACS requirements for a parenting course.
